Over the Rhine

Guten tag! We made it to Germany after another long day on the bus!

Our first stop was Cologne, after about a 3-hour nap to see Europe’s largest cathedral. It was super pretty, but we only had a short amount of time in it. We also got sandwiches from a little café and a wonderful chocolate, shortbread, cookie dessert thing. After that it was back on the bus before a cruise on the Rhine River. It was an hour and a half boat ride through some cute little cities with lots of views of castles and the Loreli rock. For once it was hot, so I got some sun too!

After we got back on the bus for another hour and a half to Heidelberg. We got here later than expected due to traffic, so we had to rush through the gorgeous castle that overlooks the whole city (Seriously, like 15 minutes), and I got a picture of the biggest keg in the world.

Next we rushed off to a traditional German dinner of soup, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and chocolate pudding. It was pretty good! Wish I liked beer because apparently that was good too… Heidelberg is gorgeous! SO cute and full of college students. It reminds me of a cross between Florence, Charleston, and Puerto Rico. It’s full of cobble stone streets and little shops and colorful houses and the river. I wish we were here for longer! I feel like I got to see very little. It’s only 8, but I’m not up for partying and most of the stores and museums are closing, but more Germany in a few days!
